Letter to John P. McGreevy from Jordan Jaffe Project Coordinator
6 January 2003,
Mr. John P. McGreevy
87 Main Street
Woodbridge, N. J. 07095
Dear Mr. McGreevy:
Enclosed please find three official Gunnery Sergeant John Basilone Posters. The John Basilone Stamp Campaign Committee wishes to thank you for all your efforts during 2002, in establishing 19 February 2002, as John Basilone Day.
The Basilone Stamp Campaign Committee would be honored if you would take a poster for yourself. The Committee would also be appreciative if you would present a poster to your son, Governor McGreevy; extending all the heartfelt wishes and gratitude for his support and endorsement of the campaign. The third poster is for the State of New Jersey to commemorate their support in this noble cause of procuring a stamp for their native son and one of the true heroes of the United States. Please excuse the fact that the posters are not framed however, the budget for the stamp campaign is extremely limited.
In addition to the Great State of New Jersey, the John Basilone Stamp Campaign has received the endorsement of the cities of New York and Philadelphia. Furthermore, Senate Resolution 154 [which expresses that it is the sense of the United States Senate that the United States Post Office should issue a stamp honoring John Basilone] was brought to the floor of the Senate as the session ended in 2002. Senator Jon Corzine has assured me that during the early part of the 108th Senate Session, Resolution 154 will be reintroduced and voted upon.
The Stamp Campaign also has a Website that is designed by Corporal Dave Murphy USMC. I encourage you to visit www.johnbasilonestampcampaign.com and enjoy Cpl. Murphy’s artistry.
Again I extend the most sincere thanks and gratitude to you and Governor McGreevy for all the help and support. I am sure that 19 February 2003 Gunnery Sergeant John Basilone Day in the Great State of New Jersey will surpass 2002.
Sincerely yours,
Jordan Anne Jaffe
